Dittany, or erontas.

It is a plant that grows only in Crete. We find it on mountainous and hilly limestone terrain, in gorges, on cliffs and on rocks in the mountain areas.

Dittany acts as an effective antioxidant, and it has also been found to have an antimicrobial action. It has healing and astringent properties, and for this reason it is considered a remedy for the stomach and for abscesses.

It is recommended for stomach disorders, colic and inflammations of the gastrointestinal system, as well as for nervous disorders, headaches and other ailments of the nervous system, because of its soothing properties.

For its antiseptic properties it is used for flu and colds, and it is also used as a haemostatic and against bad breath.

The Cretan herbs are gathered by the Tsakalakis family in the mountain village of Nivritos in Crete.
