Description
Anama honey from Ikaria. Anama, or heather honey, is a honey made from the flowers of the shrub called heather (Reiki). Heather is one of the most important plants for beekeeping, because it also allows the beehive to renew itself.
It is a product with a particularly high nutritional value and is one of the best choices for strengthening the body. This very special honey is collected in the autumn months from the mountains of Ikaria. It has antiseptic, astringent and anti-inflammatory properties, especially for the urinary and digestive systems. It helps lower cholesterol, and it is an excellent honey for children with anaemia as well as for the elderly.
It has a characteristic caramel taste, a strong aroma of heather flowers and a reddish copper colour that turns caramel-coloured after it crystallises, which happens very quickly, 1–3 months after it is collected.
