Besides being used as a herb in cooking, bay laurel leaves are also used as an herbal infusion. Bay laurel acts as an antiseptic, diuretic, antispasmodic, tonic, digestive and sweat-inducing aid, and helps with problems such as colic, bloating, loss of appetite, catarrh, cough and colds. 

The bay laurel infusion can be made by boiling 2-3 small leaves in a cup of water for ten minutes, and it is used to combat insomnia and tension. The same infusion is also considered useful in cases of indigestion and loss of appetite. 

The Cretan herbs are collected by the Tsakalakis family in the mountain village of Nivritos in Crete.
